Ken Morehead, MM, MSOM, DOM (NM), L.Ac. (NC), DAONB, CKMS

As of 2022, he has been licensed for 30 years as a Doctor of Oriental Medicine in New Mexico, where he practiced for four years before relocating to Durham. He has a Master’s of Science in Oriental Medicine, is board certified with the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, nationally board certified as an Acupuncture Orthopedist and has a Certificate of Completion in Kiiko Matsumoto Style Acupuncture. Ken began his study of functional medicine in 1991 and loves the interplay between East Asian and functional medicine.

Ken has been active supporting the profession, serving as a board examiner for the New Mexico Licensing Board, secretary of the New Mexico Association of Acupuncture and Asian Medicine and serving two terms on the North Carolina Acupuncture Licensing Board, where he was Chair toward the end of his tenure.

He was one of the first acupuncturists credentialed at Duke Integrative Medicine and is the primary investigator of a Kidney Failure Prevention Study (2022). Through the UNC Lactation Consultant department, Ken was the primary acupuncturist exploring the benefits of acupuncture in the treatment of breast pain associated with lactation.

Ken enjoys seeing patients with a wide range of complaints. He has a special interest in orthopedic conditions, auto-immune presentations, breast health, prostate disorders, kidney failure, cardiovascular disease, migraines as well as nutritional consulting and lab testing.

He has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Performance and has fond memories of performing with the Houston Pops Orchestra, the Austin Symphony and the Santa Fe Opera early in his career. Ken has been with the Durham Symphony since 2017 and has founded a Percussion Keyboard Quartet based in the Triangle.
